What a Factor Is

A factor is a whole number that divides another whole number exactly, with no remainder. For 24, the factors include 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 24.

Factor Pairs

Factors often come in pairs. Since 3×8=243 \times 8 = 24, both 3 and 8 are factors of 24. Looking for pairs helps you check whether a factor list is complete.

Prime Factorization

What is the difference between factors and prime factors?
